"Queen Of The Keyboards", "The Complete Package", The“Triple Threat” are just a few titles that have been often used to describe Bay Area keyboardist and vocalist, Janice Maxie-Reid. Conservatory-trained, jazz and gospel inspired, this stunning and talented powerhouse hails from Oakland California.
Janice began playing at the piano at age four, singing at age nine and performing at the professional level with bands at the age of thirteen. She impressively shifts through all genres from classical to spirituals, blues to gospel and funk to jazz.
A "one-woman band", Janice often doubles as a keyboard and left-hand keyboard bass player which makes her a force of nature on any stage! Her soulful, angelic and daringly accurate vocal prowess, distinctive four-octave voice range and engaging stage presence captivate her audiences!
In addition to her outstanding performance skills, Janice is a respected educator who has taught and mentored scores of performing artists. Many have gone on to pursue successful music careers including opera singer Jeannine Anderson, neo soul singer Sakai, Stevie Wonder's keyboardist Victoria Theodore and 7-time Grammy Nominee, Ledisi.
Having toured and performed throughout the world, she has performed for thousands on both large and small venues either as a solo artist or sharing the stage with musical giants including Sting, Kenny G, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Earl Klugh, Will Downing, George Duke and Narada Michael Walden. She also performed solo piano at Clint Eastwood's Annual Golf Tournament and most recently performed the U.S. National Anthem at the Oakland Coliseum for an Oakland Athletics Major League Baseball game.
Janice's vast musical gifts and massive repertoire are always on point and leave her audiences wanting for more! Janice has performed on major concert stages including Bourbon Street Music Club in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Saratoga Spring Performing Arts Center, Davies Symphony Hall, Concord Pavilion,Yoshi's and the legendary Berkeley and Russian River Jazz Festivals.
Janice is a bandleader of her own group and is the “first call” musician for other leading Bay Area bands including Stanley Clarke's Roxboro Records smooth jazz guitartist Lloyd Gregory, drum legend "The Groove Merchant" Larry Vann and Santana's 11-time Grammy Award winning lead vocalist Tony Lindsay. Her musical influences include Duke Ellington, Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock, Rodney Franklin, Nancy Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack and Barbara Streisand.
